We have taught these courses in England during eighteen summers and students from over fifty universities have enrolled. We welcome your application.
Two health administration courses are being offered as part of the University of Evansville's five-week 2023 Summer School at Harlaxton College in England. Classes meet collectively for group information and individually to study each specific field of interest. Visits are planned to modern health care facilities and relevant historical sites. Other activities include group discussions with British citizens concerning the consumer's view of the British health care system. Students can register for one or both of the following courses.

This course focuses on a comparison of the health care systems in Great Britain and the United States. It also examines the origin and current status of the British health care. Visits are planned to modern health care facilities and historical sites in Leicester, Nottingham, Grantham, Lincoln and London. Other activities include group discussions with British citizens concerning the consumer’s view on the British health care system. British health care professionals will visit and discuss their role in the National Health Service. This class may be taken alone or in conjunction with the other health administration class. All majors are welcome. No prerequisites.

Discusses ethical and legal issues in health care and their application to the health care organization, employees and patients. Topics include issues at the end of life, distribution of health care, privacy, organizational ethics, professional ethics, and regulatory issues. Visits are planned to modern health care facilities and historical sites in Leicester, Nottingham, Grantham and Lincoln. Students will meet with British health care professionals and discuss ethical dilemmas in the delivery of health care in primary care, hospital, and hospice settings. This class may be taken alone or in conjunction with the other health administration class. All majors are welcome. No prerequisites.
The five-week classes meet for discussion sessions at Harlaxton and there will be several days devoted to site visits, Additionally, there will be travel opportunities during the weekends. Students will have the opportunity to travel on college-sponsored trips as well as individual travel.
There are no specific prerequisites for these courses and all majors are welcome.
Applications for the 5-week classes will be accepted by the Office of Education Abroad in Fall 2022. Space is limited and students are accepted on a rolling basis. The priority application deadline is January 2023. Applications will be accepted after that date on a space available basis. Students enrolled at other universities will be instructed how to create a University of Evansville account. You may establish your account and submit your Summer 2023 application here starting in Fall 2022.
Program Fee: $4200 for the 5-week session. Includes housing, meal plan and £100 Manor Money, BritRail England Pass, London excursion, experiential learning fee, local Harlaxton shuttle fee, health and wellness fee, technology fee, and airport pick-up at London Heathrow (only) for passengers landing on the designated arrival day per the program calendar. Tuition per credit hour $375.00 (estimated). Tuition not included in the program fee. (Payable to University of Evansville by April 15, 2023. Final official charges will be confirmed in March 2023). There is an addition $350 course fee for health care site visits. Students taking both HSA course only pay one course fee.
Bill Stroube is professor and director of the health services administration program at the University of Evansville. He has published in the areas of international health care issues, health care marketing, and health care ethics. Before joining the UE faculty in 1998, he spent 12 years in management positions in the pharmaceutical industry and eight years at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C.
Bill has extensive experience leading student groups through the British health care system, and also has taught summer classes in China, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. He has extensive experience working will universities in India and China. He has served as Adjunct Professor at IMS Unison University in Dehradun, India. Currently he is a Visiting Fellow at The Centre for Health Innovation, Leadership and Learning at the Nottingham University Business School, UK. Since 2000 he has taught more than twenty courses in England in a 10-day and 5-week format.
